Lightweight, rear-wheel drive, precise handling - many automotive enthusiasts hold that these attributes are the fundamentals of a driver's car. Fittingly so, when the Subaru BRZ first debuted it had enthusiasts around the world laud its dynamics and, to top things off nicely, its affordable price. The 2022 BRZ storms onto the scene improved in every aspect, while honoring the same fundamentals it excels at.
The 2022 BRZ coupe maintains its 2+2 seating arrangement, front-mounted low-slung BOXER engine, and rear-wheel drive from its predecessor. Most significant of these attributes is the updated engine. Now displacing 2.4-litres, the 2022 BRZ outputs 228 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, both notable increases when contrasted to the first-generation BRZ's 2.0-litre engine (205 bhp and 212 Nm respectively). The new engine sends power to the rear-wheels through a limited-slip differential via a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission, or an enhanced 6-speed automatic transmission. The latter featuring paddle shifters and downshift blip control. In its lightest specification, the new BRZ weighs under 1,300 kilograms.
The 2022 BRZ's design features diligently sculpted surfaces - adding both to its sophisticated sports car aesthetics and aerodynamic improvements from its predecessor. The overall design is lightly longer and lower, and its low profile and widened stance enhance its grip on the tarmac. Functional side vents reduce drag by ducting air under the hood and fenders, and redirects it to a side sill spoiler that creates downforce at speed. The all-new premium interior is designed with the driver in mind. The seating position is low, and the contoured bucket seats are enhanced with red stitching. A new customizable 7.0-inch digital dashboard highlights the central tachometer with a configurable display to provide drivers with their preferred set of information (battery amps, water temperature, g-force meter, etc.). Elsewhere in the interior, a new 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen occupies the center console. Smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth are all available. The all-new BRZ is also available with SUBARU STARLINK™ Connected Services - this system allows customers to stay connected to their vehicle via their mobile device. Subaru's EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology has also been added to the new BRZ for added safety and peace of mind. With this system, two cameras monitor activity on the road and help identify potentially hazardous situations to assist the driver, should they need it. The system encapsulates a series of features including Automatic Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, and Lane-Keep Assist.
