The New Benchmark - 2022 Subaru WRX

WRX -- a badge synonymous with capability, usability, and instilling security and confidence in its driver, unlike any other enthusiast car. Now entering its fifth-generation, the all-new 2022 WRX is ready to continue the legacy of performance and fun set by its predecessors, and raise the bar higher as the most dynamically accomplished WRX to-date.

The sharp exterior of the new WRX makes a dynamic statement, whether when stationary or on the move. The proportions and accents demonstrate a wide-body design that showcases an aggressive stance from all angles. The trademark hood scoop is as functional as it as aesthetic, the dual muffler and quad-exhaust tip arrangement fill the rear proportions nicely, and newly added air outlets at the front and rear wheel arches improve aerodynamics and driving stability. For the interior, the standard-available black interior is contrasted thoughtfully with red stitching. Drivers will also appreciate the leather-wrapped, flat bottom steering wheel. Certain trim levels will have available Ultrasuede finishes and carbon-look accent trims pieces to give the interior a more premium feel. Entry-level WRX models will sport an all-new 7.0-inch Wide Video Graphics Array display offering a splitting function between multimedia and HVAC controls. Other models of the WRX will have an all-new tablet-style 11.6-inch infotainment display placed in the center console. From this screen, occupants can control HVAC, audio, and vehicle settings. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM are all standard throughout the WRX lineup. Sport-tech models are also equipped with navigation and a Harman Kardon premium audio system.

A new 2.4-litre turbocharged BOXER engine outputs 271 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. Peak power hits at 5,600 rpm, and torque distribution is deployed over a broader range of 2,000-5,200 rpm. These power figures are complemented by improved, lower gear ratios and the feeling of acceleration is an improvement over preceding WRX models. Power is sent to all four wheels by either a slick 6-speed manual transmission, or the all-new intuitive Subaru Performance Transmission (SPT) continuously variable transmission (CVT). The latter has 30% faster upshifts and 50% faster downshifts compared to earlier CVT transmissions. SPT also features adaptive shift control to perform rev-matching downshifts, 8-speed manual mode that can be accessed using steering wheel paddles, and the availability of three different settings via the SI-Drive Performance Management System. The chassis is a marked improvement from earlier iterations too. Overall stiffness and rigidity are heightened using full inner frame construction, increased use of structural adhesives, and diligent re-engineering of suspension mounting points. These improvements also see a reduction in noise, vibrations, and harshness (NVH), all without sacrificing safety for occupants.

Standard on all automatic transmission variants, the WRX sports the latest generation of EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, featuring expanded angles of view and software performance improvements. Lane Departure Prevention has also been improved to interact with drivers more naturally. For the first time, the WRX is equipped with Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering, and newly available Autmoatic Emergency Steering works with the Pre-Collision Braking System to assist steering control to avoid collisions at speeds up-to 80 km/h.
